Using song and movement at St. Cecilia School in Omaha Sept. 19, Latina storyteller Olga Loya of San Jose, Calif., shared a few stories her Mexican father and grandmother would tell.
The folktales, ancient myths and history are designed to keep the Latino culture alive, and to teach students lessons about valuing oneself and being kind to others, said Paulette Rourke, principal. Loya’s performance was one of several activities at the school celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
