Positive actions reap reward
William Kelly brought more than books, pictures and papers to his new job as principal at St. James/Seton School in Omaha.
He also brought an idea that had worked at his former school, Our Lady of Lourdes in Omaha – positive office referrals.
Teachers who see students act in a Christ-like manner fill out a form and hand it into the principal’s office. Winners are announced every morning on the intercom and their names are posted in the lobby, for everyone to see.
"We think the positive emphasis on Catholic values will have an impact," Kelly said.
By early October, teachers made 92 positive office referrals.
"It’s starting to catch on, I think," Kelly said.
