School to honor five for service

Father Thomas Fangman, pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Elkhorn, will be among five people honored for their service to the church at Creighton Preparatory School’s annual Loyola Dinner of Honor and Distinction Oct. 26 in Omaha.

Father Fangman, a 1980 graduate of Creighton Prep, will receive the Sword of St. Ignatius award for demonstrating courage, service and loyalty to the church – spiritual values associated with St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuit religious order that sponsors the all-boys high school. Among other things, Father Fangman has helped with Creighton Prep’s freshman retreat for 25 years.

Doug Wilwerding, a 1981 graduate and member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Omaha, will receive the Alumnus of the Year award for serving others, in part for his work on a Creighton Prep development committee and the school’s board of trustees, as well as on boards for Marian High School, Catholic Charities and the College of Saint Mary, all in Omaha.

The Hall of Fame award for teachers, staff, coaches, alumni, parents and friends of the school will go to Dr. Michael J. "Mike" Morrison, a member of Christ the King Parish in Omaha, in part for his work as the team doctor for Creighton Prep athletics; and Sean Mullen, a 1974 graduate, member of St. Wenceslaus Parish in Omaha, and longtime supporter of Creighton Prep, including as a member of the school’s board.

Margaret "Peggy" Grennan of St. Margaret Mary Parish in Omaha and principal of St. Margaret Mary School, will receive the Ancilla Domini award, given each year to a woman known for her caring and unselfish dedication to faith, family and community.

The dinner is $45 per person. Reservations can be made at For more information, contact Amy Knight, the school’s director of events, at 402-548-3858 or
