New crucifix graces school gym

A San Damiano Crucifix, similar to the one St. Francis of Assisi was said to be praying before when he received God’s commission to rebuild the church, now graces St. Wenceslaus School’s gymnasium and auditorium.

Officials at the Omaha school, including the principal, William Huben, said they felt it was important to have a crucifix in the gym.

Father Tom Bauwens, pastor of St. Wenceslaus Parish, helped dedicate the crucifix Nov. 4, encouraging the students at an all-school assembly to pray for safety and fun before every sporting event.

The crucifix joins crosses painted at intervals on the gymnasium walls.
