‘Stuartship Day’ at Duchesne Academy

Helping expectant mothers in need.

That was the goal as seniors at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha joined faculty, alumnae, parents and preschool students Oct. 19 in a day of service for the Omaha chapter of the Christ Child Society.

Marking "Stuartship Day," which honors the sixth superior general of the Society of the Sacred Heart, Mother Janet Erskine Stuart, they assembled 500 tote bags, each packed with pacifiers, baby bottles, a dozen diapers, books, infant bodysuits, sleepers, receiving blankets, bibs, socks and a homemade item.

People in the school community collected about 6,000 diapers and 130 children’s books over a two-month period for the project, with other items provided by the Christ Child Society.

The packages were delivered to 12 agencies in the Omaha area that assist pregnant women.
