Omaha school assists homeless
A two-mile walk Oct. 13 that began with a prayer service and drew more than 150 people, a week of bake sales and a coin challenge collection for the needy won by the eighth-grade class were part of Our Lady of Lourdes School's annual "Walk for the Homeless" in Omaha.
The $2,262 the events raised, up from $1,750 last year, benefited The Stephen Center, an Omaha homeless shelter, said William Kelly, principal.
"I was pleased that so many of our school kids participated," he said. "We didn't have any prizes, because this is to walk for the people who are in need. This is what Catholics do. We help those who are in need."
