Panel to discuss cocument on Jewish-Catholic relations
The Archdiocese of Omaha, along with the Anti-Defamation League and the Kripke Center for the Study of Religion and Society at Creighton University, is sponsoring a community panel discussion on 'Nostra Aetate," a Vatican II document on Jewish-Catholic relations.
The event will take place Sunday, Oct. 30, from 2-4 p.m. at the Cathedral Cultural Center, 3900 Webster St., in Omaha.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the revolutionary document that repudiated the centuries-old Christian teaching of contempt for Judaism and the Jewish people. The discussion will examine the evolution of Jewish-Catholic relations since the publication of 'Nostra Aetate."
The purpose of the event is to increase awareness about 'Nostra Aetate" and its impact on Jewish-Catholic relations, to create discussion and reflection on Jewish-Catholic relations in Omaha and to identify opportunities to strengthen the relationship between two communities.
Panel members include Father Ryan Lewis, vice chancellor, ecumenical officer of the Archdiocese of Omaha; Rabbi Aryeh Azriel of Temple Israel; Dr. Wendy Wright, professor of History of Spiritual Theology at Creighton University; Dr. Roger Bergman, director of Justice and Peace Studies Program at Creighton University; and Dr. Bette Evans, associate professor of Political Science at Creighton University.
