Seven Oaks grant to help seniors
A $10,000 grant from a foundation will benefit low-income seniors who live at Seven Oaks at Notre Dame in Omaha, as well as nurse practitioner students at Creighton University.
The students will provide full health screenings and follow-up consultations, with an emphasis on identifying and treating depression. The grant from the Gary and Mary West Foundation also will help fund a program designed to help residents identify and use their talents to assist others.
The West Foundation, which works to improve the lives of low-income seniors and disadvantaged young people, has supported Seven Oaks at Notre Dame in several ways since 2008, said Melanie Ennen, a spokeswoman for the Notre Dame Sisters, which developed and manages Seven Oaks.
