Encountering Jesus

Students relive Jesus’ journey to the Cross

Students from St. Francis School and Archangels Catholic High School in Humphrey made the road to Calvary come alive with their presentation of the Living Stations of the Cross.

The tradition had gone away in recent years, but was brought back thanks to a revived campus ministry.

Students in preschool through high school took part in the Stations, held April 11 in the Archangels Catholic gym.

Seniors had key roles, with Noah Wieseler as Jesus, Mason Geilenkirchen as Pilate, Andrew Kosch and Devon Baumgart as Roman guards and Isabel Preister as Mary.

They were joined in each tableau by other students seated in the congregation.

Junors Tyson Wietfeld and Tucker Czarnick placed the beam on Jesus’ shoulder, while junior Tanner Classen played the role of Simon, who helped Jesus carry his cross.  Sixth-grader Kelsey Kosch portrayed Veronica, who wiped Jesus’ Face along the route.

Juniors Jayda Krings, Kylee Kuchar, Ella Foltz, and Kali Jarosz stepped into the scene as the weeping women. Acting as their children were second-grade students Elizabeth Czarnick, Clyne Kessler, Josie Fisher and Rylee Wieser.

Sophomores Jacob Keller and Chase Freudenburg helped to take Jesus down from the Cross.

Other students led reflections and prayers: juniors Matthew Brockhaus and Whitney Wegener; sophomores Grace McPhillips and Gavin Geilenkirchen; freshmen Jett Reichmuth and Clara Classen; eighth-grader Brenna Wieseler; seventh-graders Myla Geilenkirchen, Jameson Small, and Trevor Czarnick; sixth-graders Bennet Brandl and Tate Schumacher; and fifth-graders Lainey Braun and Andrew Stricklin.
