Thomas Matya ordained a transitional deacon at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome

Archdiocese of Omaha seminarian Thomas Matya was one of 18 seminarians from across the United States ordained transitional deacons at St. Peter’s Basilica on Thursday in Rome. Bishop Robert Barron of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester in Minnesota presided.

Deacon Matya, whose home parish is St. Charles Borromeo in Gretna, is studying at the Pontifical North American College in Rome.

The ordination marks the final phase of Deacon Matya’s seminary formation. He’s on track to be ordained a priest next summer at St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha. You can watch a recording of the Ordination Mass on YouTube here.
