Sister served two years in Omaha

Sinsinawa Dominican Sister Anne Marie Mongoven, whose 70 years of religious life included teaching for two years at St. Cecilia School in Omaha, died Aug. 4 in Dubuque, Iowa. She was 89.

A funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse and burial was in the order’s cemetery, both in Sinsinawa, Wis.

Sister Ann Marie, whose religious name was Sister Thomas á Becket, was born in Chicago. She made her first religious profession in 1947, and final profession in 1950.

She taught at St. Cecilia from 1964 to 1966, and taught or served as a principal in elementary schools, high schools and colleges in Minneapolis; Madison and Wausau, Wis.; Washington, D.C.; and Santa Clara, Calif.

She also served as the associate director of religious education in the Diocese of Madison. She wrote many articles and books on catechesis and other subjects, including co-authoring a series for children titled "Living Waters," and helping the U.S. bishops with the National Catechetical Directory.
