To mark the opening of Jubilee 2025 – Pilgrims of Hope – the Archdiocese of Omaha will hold a Rite of Opening, procession and Mass on Sunday, Dec. 29.
The Rite of Opening will take place at 1:15 p.m. in the Chapel at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha, followed by a procession to St. Cecilia Cathedral for Mass.
The 2025 Jubilee will officially open on Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. local time in Vatican City with the rite of Opening the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter by Pope Francis, who will then preside over the celebration of the Night Mass of the Lord’s Birth inside the Basilica.
In announcing Jubilee 2025, Pope Francis wrote, “We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and far-sighted vision.”
The Jubilee Year will offer the faithful opportunities to participate in various jubilee events at the Vatican and in their own dioceses. More information can be found here.
Seating at the Duchesne Chapel is limited. Those wishing to attend should RSVP here. Those who wish to attend only the Mass at the cathedral should arrive by 1:45 p.m. The Mass will be livestreamed on the St. Cecilia Cathedral YouTube channel here.
