Ash Wednesday

Thousands of people across the archdiocese joined millions around the world at Ash Wednesday Masses March 1, marking the beginning of the Lenten season.

The 40 days of Lent are a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving in preparation for Christ’s passion and resurrection at Easter.

The ashes are reminders of mankind’s sinfulness and mortality, the need for repentance and the promise of salvation through Jesus.
