Blessing for education

Archbishop George J. Lucas blesses the new David “DJ” Sokol Learning for Life Building Jan. 15 at Mount Michael Benedictine School near Elkhorn. The state-of-the-art building, with a focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), is named after the son of principal donors David and Peggy Sokol, who died of cancer shortly after graduating from Mount Michael in 1999. The event also included the archbishop celebrating Mass, a ribbon cutting, tours and a luncheon. Looking on are Benedictine Abbot Michael Liebl, left, David Peters, head of school, and Benedictine Brother August Schaefer, a Mount Michael teacher and vocations director. Photo by MIKE MAY/STAFF
