Cheer squad wins sixth title

The cheer team at Daniel J. Gross Catholic High School in Bellevue is celebrating its sixth straight title in the Class B non-tumbling event at the Feb. 17-18 Nebraska State Cheer & Dance Championships in Grand Island.

Cougar teams also took third in the cheer category’s game day competition and the dance category’s hip-hop competition.

Four other Catholic high schools won at least one event and placed in others, including: Class B V.J. and Angela Skutt Catholic High School in Omaha, first in sideline, jazz and pom, second in game day; Class C1 Scotus Central Catholic High School in Columbus, first in game day and the spirit award, second in sideline; Class C1 Norfolk Catholic, first in sideline, third in hip-hop; and Class C2 Archbishop Bergan Catholic High School in Fremont, first in sideline, second in hip-hop.

Also placing were Class A Marian High School in Omaha, second in game day and tumbling, third in pom; and Class C2 Cedar Catholic Junior/Senior High School in Hartington, second in pom.
