10th National Eucharistic Congress opens in Indianapolis

National Eucharistic Congress attendees — including more than 250 from the Archdiocese of Omaha — have had busy and exhausting days, filled with opportunities for inspiring talks and music by nationally known Catholics, prayer, Eucharistic adoration, Confession, several forms of liturgies, food, drinks and fellowship with other attendees.

The focus, of course, is on the Eucharist.

More than 50,000 Catholics traveled to Indianapolis this week for the first National Eucharistic Congress in 83 years, as the U.S. bishops seek to ignite a Eucharistic revival throughout the country.

Events began Wednesday beginning with the procession of the four National Eucharistic Pilgrimage routes into Lucas Oil Stadium.

Some of the pilgrims from the archdiocese were scheduled to have dinner with Archbishop George J. Lucas while in Indianapolis. He was among a number of prelates at the congress, including other bishops and Cardinals Timothy Dolan, Sean O’Malley, Wilton Gregory, Blase Cupich, Papal Nuncio Pierre Christophe and Papal Delegate Luis Tagle.

Some of the faithful from the archdiocese also made plans to gather with each other for a picnic in a large outdoor dining area.
