Discovering who God calls you to serve

In the latest episode of Archbishop George J. Lucas’ video podcast, “Missional Catholics,” the archbishop talks with the co-founder and president of Educate Uganda about the need to care for your neighbors, whether they live next door, across town or on the other side of the world.

Karen Van Dyke shares how a birthday gift from her husband 17 years ago led to a brighter future for thousands of impoverished children in Uganda. The surprise gift of what Van Dyke believed would be a one-time mission trip eventually was the catalyst for Educate Uganda. Educate Uganda is a nonprofit organization that helps build schools and offers hope for Ugandan children who desperately need both.

Archbishop Lucas and Van Dyke also talk about the need for quiet prayer to discern what God may be calling you to do and responding to that call even if you are afraid.

“Missional Catholics” episodes can be found on the Archdiocese’s YouTube page and is also available on major podcast streaming services like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music and Podbean, with more to come.

Van Dyke is a member of St. Wenceslaus in Omaha. She and her husband, Greg, have five children. Learn more about Educate Uganda here.
