Honoring the dead
April 18, 2019
Nancy Mulhall, left, and Jana Donahoe, parishioners and sacristans at St. Cecilia Parish in Omaha, help Brother William Woeger, director of the archdiocese’s Office of Divine Worship, prepare candles Oct. 27 around a catafalque in St. Cecilia Cathedral’s Nash Chapel. The catafalque will be in place through November in honor of All Saints and All Souls days. Catafalques traditionally were used as a platform for a casket during a funeral, or as a symbol for the casket itself after a burial during solemn, high requiem Masses. Photo by MIKE MAY/STAFF.
