May 27, 2014
An estimated 8,000 people visited the five archdiocese cemeteries in Omaha on May 23-26 – Memorial Day weekend — to pray at gravesites, worship at Mass and leave flowers and flags, said Jerry Broz, general manager of Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Omaha.
Calvary Cemetery drew the biggest crowd, with about 1,200 people attending a 10 a.m. outdoor Memorial Day Mass celebrated by Archbishop George J. Lucas. Father Michael Grewe, executive director of Catholic Cemeteries, concelebrated.
