More than 250 people attend annual banquet

The right to life strikes at the heart of natural law, and "if those who support abortion deny the legality of a moral right to life of the unborn, then, by that logic, there is no moral basis for any law in our nation."

Nearly 250 people heard that defense of the unborn Oct. 19 in Omaha at the eighth annual fundraising banquet for the Omaha office of national nonprofit law firm Thomas More Society.

The argument was delivered by keynote speaker Hadley Arkes, the main architect behind federal protection passed in 2002 for infants born during failed abortions.

A professor emeritus at Amherst College in Massachusetts, Arkes is director of the James Wilson Institute on Natural Rights and the American Founding in Washington, D.C. He received the society’s Defender of Life Award.

Others at the banquet included Archbishop Emeritus Elden Francis Curtiss, Pat Castle, founder of Life Runners, and Tom Brejcha, the founder, president and chief counsel of the society. They celebrated the 20th anniversary of the law firm founded in Chicago and dedicated to life, family and religious liberty.
