Music, speech at pro-life event in O’Neill

The former director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Iowa who has become an advocate for life will be the featured speaker at a Sept. 21 pro-life gathering in O’Neill.

Susan Thayer will be joined by Danny Leger, an Omaha musician and youth leader, for the free 7 p.m. gathering at the O’Neill High School gym, sponsored by nondenominational Boyd-Holt Right to Life.

Members of several parishes, Knights of Columbus councils and faithful from other denominations helped organize the third annual event, which last year featured Pam Tebow – the mother of former NFL quarterback and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.

That event drew about 1,000 people, said Jeanie Miller, head of the pro-life group and a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Boyd County, where she attends St. Mary Church in Spencer.

An emphasis this year will be letting people know an emergency pregnancy resource center for O’Neill is being organized, Miller said. It will be called Beginnings: Pregnancy Resource Center.

"We want people to know it’s happening," Miller said. "It’s not just a dream out there."
