North Bend church added to National Register of Historic Places

St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in North Bend has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The church, which was built in 1916, was added to the list on Nov. 26, 2025, according to the Nebraska State Historical Society. Its inclusion on the list follows a year-long restoration process highlighting its history and craftsmanship.

St. Charles Borromeo Church was designed by the Irish architect James H. Craddock in the Neoclassical Revival style. It contains many original features, including statuary pieces from the Daparato Rigali Studios of Chicago, stained-glass windows from the Franz Mayer Studios of Munich and hand-carved altars from the Dubuque Altar Company.

For those interested in learning more about this historic church, the parish has created a video.

The National Register of Historic Places is a list maintained by the National Park Service of buildings, structures, sites, objects and districts that are significant in American history, architecture, archaeology, engineering and culture.
