Diocese of Wichita priest remembered in Omaha

Father Michael Peltzer was born in Omaha and for more than 40 years served the Diocese of Wichita, building up parishes, writing about diocese history, helping with the consolidation of parishes and serving as a monastery chaplain.

Though his life in Omaha was brief, for just the first few weeks of his life, he will be remembered in the archdiocese because of his family roots here and through memorials directed to St. Bridget Catholic Church in Omaha, where his parents were married.

Father Peltzer, who was ordained in 1980, died April 9 at age 70.

Funeral services and burial were scheduled for April 15-16 in the Wichita diocese.

Father Peltzer was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William and Mary K. (Kavanagh) Peltzer, and sister Heidi Marie Peltzer.

Survivors include his brother, Christopher; sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Michael Elpers; nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.
