Mark Dahir embodied Heart Ministry Center’s motto, Dignity for All

Mark Dahir, chief executive officer of the Heart Ministry Center, inspired others “to do the right thing.”

Dahir died August 3 in Omaha. He was 48.

“While Mark’s tragic passing leaves a deep hole in the heart of the Heart Ministry Center community, his legacy lives on through his gifted team and through the many volunteers and community members he’s touched along the way,” said Rob Wilcox, president of Heart Ministry Center’s Board of Directors, in a statement.

The mission of the Heart Ministry Center is “providing food, healthcare and a way forward to people severely affected by poverty in the Omaha area.” Its services include a food pantry, health clinic, job placement program and laundromat.

Prior to his appointment to CEO in 2020, Dahir served as a volunteer, relationship manager, operations director, Fresh Start director, associate executive director and chief operations officer for the Heart Ministry Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Tuesday, August 8, at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Omaha. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Dahir is survived by his daughter, Whitney Dahir; parents, Michael and Mary Jo Dahir; brothers, Michael (Jill) Dahir and Joseph (Tiana) Dahir; nieces and nephews and many friends.
