School Sister of St. Francis Arlene Einwalter led province in Omaha

During 75 years of religious life, School Sister of St. Francis Arlene Einwalter served in education, social services ministries and leadership.

She was the provincial executive for her community’s Our Lady of the Angels Province in Omaha from 1979-1982.

Sister Arlene died Sept. 9 at Our Lady of the Angels in Greenfield, Wisconsin. She was 91.

A memorial Mass was celebrated Sept. 25 in Milwaukee.

Sister Arlene was born in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, and was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis in 1949. She made her first profession of vows two years later, in 1951, and made perpetual vows in 1957.

She served in Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Ohio, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wisconsin. Sister Arlene retired in 2021 but continued as a volunteer through prayer and presence until her death, her religious community said.

Survivors included nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the School Sisters of St. Francis community.
