Omaha student wins History Bee

Natalie Truscott, an eighth-grader at St. Vincent de Paul School in Omaha, has qualified for the National History Bee, June 6-8 in Atlanta.

Natalie defeated more than 30 students from several public and Catholic schools in the regional competition March 18 in Omaha and she will compete against more than 500 students at the national finals.

St. Vincent de Paul students competed in the event – sponsored by the History Channel and publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt – for the first time, with all seventh- and eighth-graders taking a written test, said Angie Zimmerman, a social studies teacher at the school. The top 10 students took a computer-based test, and four qualified for the regional competition.
