Our Lady of Lourdes students celebrate patron’s feast day

Students and staff at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Omaha marked their patron’s feast day Feb. 11 with an all-school Mass celebrated by Archbishop George J. Lucas.

The archbishop also recognized the middle school youth group for its recent drive to collect more than 600 deodorant and other personal hygiene items for homeless clients at the Stephen Center in Omaha, and the eighth-graders for winning the Catholic Schools’ Book Bowl contest.

Later that day, a school assembly featured a presentation about St. Bernadette Soubirous. As a young girl in 1858, she witnessed apparitions of the Blessed Mother at a grotto in Lourdes, France, where she was shown a spring of healing water that has since imparted thousands of miraculous cures.
