Packaging meals to help others

Religious education students at St. Francis Parish in Humphrey didn’t spend time in the classroom for two Wednesday sessions in February.

Instead, they traveled to nonprofit Mercy Meals of Nebraska in Norfolk and packaged enough food to supply 6,480 meals for the needy overseas.

Recipients of the bags filled with soy flakes, rice, chicken flavoring and dried vegetables include people at orphanages, refugee camps, disaster relief centers and food pantries.
