PHOTOS: Colors distinguish three professions at annual Masses

Archbishop Michael G. McGovern celebrated Masses this month to honor and bless professionals in three separate fields, all distinguished by a particular color.

A Red Mass, offered Oct. 5 at St. John Church on the Creighton University campus, marked the start of the judicial year and brought together law students and members of the legal profession.

A Blue Mass, held Oct. 13 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Omaha, honored first responders from law enforcement and fire and rescue departments.

A White Mass, held Oct. 17 at St. John Church at Creighton University, was held in conjunction with a Converging Roads Health Care Ethics Conference for medical professionals and students. The Mass was offered in thanksgiving to God for the gift of life and honored the work of healing.

All three Masses were open to the public – with family members, friends and other supporters in attendance.
