PHOTOS: Jubilee Mass celebrates consecrated life

About 50 religious sisters and consecrated women were honored at an Oct. 9 Jubilee of Consecrated Life Mass & Brunch at St. Patrick Church in Fremont.

Students of all ages from Archbishop Bergan Catholic School in Fremont joined in the Mass, celebrated by Archbishop Michael G. McGovern and concelebrated by Father Scott Schilmoeller, archdiocese vocations director; Father Walter Nolte, pastor of St. Patrick; and Fathers Bill Cremers and Father Joe Sund, associate pastors.

The Serra Club of Omaha hosted the event.

The Jubilee of Consecrated Life was celebrated throughout the world as part of a series of Jubilee Days during the 2025 Jubilee Year.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes consecrated life as a permanent state of life in which people deepen their baptismal consecration through vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.

Within the Church, forms of consecrated life include religious life, the eremitical life, secular institutes, societies of apostolic life, and consecrated virgins and widows.

According to Pope St. John Paul II: Consecrated men and women, “like the Apostles… have left everything behind in order to be with Christ and to put themselves, as he did, at the service of God and their brothers and sisters.”
