Monday of Holy Week ushered in an annual tradition in the Archdiocese of Omaha: Chrism Mass.

During the March 30 Mass at St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha, Archbishop Michael G. McGovern blessed and consecrated the oils to be used in sacraments in the coming year.

The archbishop blessed the oil of the sick and the oil of catechumens, which will be used in Baptisms. He consecrated the oil of holy chrism, a mixture of oil and fragrant perfume, which will be used in the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Orders.

The Mass also brought together the priests who serve in the archdiocese, to renew their priestly promises and to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as one.

After the Mass, they were to bring the newly blessed and consecrated oils back to their parishes.
