Polish dinner supports high school scholarships

The Polish Heritage Society of Nebraska will hold its annual "Bigos and Beer" fundraiser Oct. 27 to support its St. John Paul II Scholarship Fund for eighth-graders entering Catholic high schools next fall.

Students of Polish descent write essays to compete for the scholarships. Last year, the society presented three students with $1,000 scholarships.

The 6 p.m. event at the Polish Home in Papillion will feature songs and toasts, six Polish and eastern European beers and a Polish dinner of bigos (Polish hunter’s stew), pierogi (filled dumplings), Polish sausage and dessert. Soda also will be available.

Cost for the adults-only event is $25 per person. For reservations, contact Polish Home at 402-592-5117 or polishhomeomaha@qwestoffice.net.
