Sharing the spirit of the season

About 200 residents, family members and guests enjoyed a special Advent visit from Archbishop George J. Lucas Dec. 7 at New Cassel Retirement Center in Omaha.

After celebrating Mass, the archbishop mingled with people in the center’s dining room and joined three staff members and three resident-volunteers for lunch.

“For many of our residents, their faith is the most important thing in their lives,” said New Cassel chief executive officer Tracy Lichti, “so it was a great honor for them to be able to greet the archbishop and join him for Mass.”

Archbishop Lucas also toured New Cassel’s Franciscan Day Center, a facility providing daytime support services for adults with functional loss, Alzheimer’s or other challenges, and who can no longer be alone in their homes.
