Sister Greiner taught in schools

School Sister of St. Francis Madeline Mary Greiner, who served nearly 50 years in schools in the archdiocese, including 39 years at Mary Our Queen in Omaha, died March 28 in Omaha. She was 94.

A funeral Mass was held April 1 at St. Mary Church in Keota, Iowa, with interment in St. Mary Cemetery, also in Keota, Sister Greiner’s hometown.

Sister Greiner began her 76 years of religious life in 1940, making her first vows in 1942 and final vows in 1948.

From 1944 to 1967, she taught in Wisconsin, New York, Illinois, Minnesota and Iowa. Coming to the Omaha archdiocese in 1967, she taught one year at then-St. Joseph School in Pierce and from 1968 to 1971 at then-St. Patrick School in Fremont.

Sister Greiner taught at Mary Our Queen from 1971 to 1993 and was a substitute teacher there from 1993 to 2002. She performed clerical duties from 2002 until her retirement to New Cassel Retirement Center in Omaha in 2010.
