Snapshots of Bishop McGovern’s five years in the Diocese of Belleville
April 3, 2025
Bishop Michael McGovern called his five years in the Diocese of Belleville a blessing from the Lord as he prepares to become the 6th Archbishop of Omaha.
In remarks to faithful and clergy of the southern Illinois diocese, Archbishop-designate McGovern said, “I appreciate the service of the clergy, the diocesan staff, staffs of our parishes, schools and religious education programs and the many, many volunteers who provide countless hours of support for the mission of the Church. Truly the people of the Belleville diocese are ‘servants on Christ’s mission’ and I will miss them.”
“I am very grateful to the clergy and people of southern Illinois for their support and the many ways they have shared their faith with me over the past five years. I hope that the work we have done together in the Belleville Diocese will yield an increase in the active participation of Catholic people and an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.”
