Students tested on Catholic knowledge – for scholarships, charities and fun
February 17, 2026
Dozens of students competed for scholarship money and for charities at the third annual High School Catholic Quiz Bowl, hosted by St. Margaret Mary Parish and supported by St. John Paul II Newman Center, both in Omaha.
The competitors hailed from several Omaha-area schools, including home schools, Creighton Preparatory School, Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart, V.J. and Angela Skutt Catholic High School, Mount Michael Benedictine High School and St. John Paul II Academy.
Every team was made up of three to five students, with the top three teams sharing $8,500 in scholarship money.
Every team also played for a nonprofit. All the nonprofits received a donation, thanks to the students who chose them.
This year’s categories included two rounds of questions on the New Testament and two rounds on the Old Testament. Other categories were The Mass, The Sacraments, The Saints, and Doctors of the Church.
Also as part of the event, participants enjoyed Mangia Italiana pizza and cookies from Eileen’s Cookies.
Father Jim Keiter, pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish, welcomed everyone. Mike Monday of Monday Night Games emceed, providing a game show atmosphere.
This year’s judges were Mike Macaulay, Dr. Sara Strattan, Brenda and Tom Hoover and Meg Gatete.
