Three couples honored at ACD Dinner

Archbishop George J. Lucas honored three couples for their service to the archdiocese at the 42nd annual Archbishop’s Committee for Development (ACD) recognition dinner.

About 125 people attended the June 8 dinner at the Omaha Country Club, where the archbishop recognized Mary Jo and Dick Coffey, members of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Omaha, for a quarter century of service to the organization. Committee members Krista and Mickey Anderson of St. Margaret Mary Parish in Omaha, and Betsy and Bob Reed of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish were honored for their impact on the archdiocese.

Mary Jo Coffey has served as a member of several boards and volunteer groups, including her parish council, president of Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart alumni sodality in Omaha and as a planner for the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem’s annual meeting and dinner.

Dick Coffey has been president of the West Omaha Serra Club, chairman of the New Cassel Retirement Center, and a Christian Urban Education Service (CUES) and Ronald McDonald House of Omaha board member. He currently serves as a CUES trustee and Creighton University Heider School of Business advisory board member, and is a mentor and tutor at Boys Town.

Together, the Coffeys have co-chaired CUES fundraisers, Creighton Preparatory School of Omaha’s BASH annual dinner and auction, and New Cassel Foundation’s Spirit of St. Francis fundraiser.

As Miss Nebraska in 2002, Krista Anderson was a national spokesperson for the YWCA and addressed violence against women. She was a board member for Nebraska Special Olympics and founding member of the Midwest affiliate of the American Heart Association’s Sweetheart education program for women.

At St. Margaret Mary Parish, she leads eighth-grade retreats, children’s and adults’ prayer groups and has been president of the Women’s Guild circle. She is a board member of the One Heart-One Fire Ministries spiritual formation program for children.

Her husband is on the board of the Children’s Scholarship Fund of Omaha, the national advisory board of the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s College of Business Administration, the board of trustees for the Omaha World-Herald Goodfellows charities, the board of governors for the AKSARBEN Foundation and he is a trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation.

Betsy Reed has served as president of Duchesne Academy’s board of trustees and chair of Creighton Prep’s BASH. She has served with the Assistance League of Omaha, the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, and the Archbishop’s Educational Trust, and on Boys Town’s Father Flanagan League board of directors, Catholic Charities Foundation’s board of trustees, and the Holy Name School alumni board.

Bob Reed served on the boards of Creighton University and Creighton Prep in Omaha, and Daniel J. Gross Catholic High School in Bellevue, as well as the AKSARBEN Foundation’s board of governors. He has received awards from Alpha Sigma Nu National Jesuit Honorary Society, Metro Omaha Medical Society and the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, among others.

Together, the Reeds were honorary chairs of the 2016 Archbishop’s Dinner for Education and chairs of CUES’ The Gathering, Catholic Charities’ Irish Fest and Duchesne Academy’s Conge fundraisers. They have received the Knight Commander Grand Cross and Silver and Gold Palms of Jerusalem from the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

The ACD’s 200 members help provide leadership and expertise to the archbishop on Catholic education, stewardship, estate planning, development and finance.
