Viva Pit Señor!

Shouts of “Viva Pit Señor! (Long live the Christ Child!) rang out in Omaha on Jan. 15 as Filipino-Americans and others adored Santo Niño de Cebu, the Holy Child Jesus, at two parishes.

Special Masses were offered at St. Thomas More Church and St. Cecilia Cathedral. The merriment then carried over with Sinulog Fiestas at nearby halls, with Filipino food, music and entertainment.

Devotion to the Christ Child in the Philippines dates back more than 500 years and culminates with a celebration each year on the third Sunday of January.

The occasion has been observed in the Archdiocese of Omaha for more than 40 years – and devotion to Santo Niño continues throughout the year.

Below are photos from events at both parishes.
