Wanted: Numerous, prayerful, positive people to join Life Chain this Sunday
October 1, 2024
Catholics across the archdiocese are encouraged to show up in numbers and be joyful during annual Life Chain demonstrations on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 6.
This year is particularly important, “especially as we prepare to protect Life at the polls in November,” said Father Benjamin Boyd, archdiocesan pro-life chaplain and pastor of St. Bernadette Parish in Bellevue and Holy Ghost Parish in Omaha.
“We have a great opportunity and responsibility,” he said to pro-life leaders, “to once again … change hearts and minds with love,” and show “that nothing is more sacred than life.”
“I challenge and encourage all of us to come out in record numbers this year with your parish families and friends to positively pray, sing, wave, and smile, to continue to defend Life & Truth, especially for those who disagree or yell obscenities,” he wrote.
Father Boyd also suggested fasting before Life Chain.
Most of the Life Chain demonstrations in the archdiocese will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., with some exceptions, including a Life Chain in Crofton, which will be an hour later.
In the Omaha metro area, the Life Chain will stretch along Dodge Street and West Dodge Road, from 60th Street to 90th Street.
Other Life Chains will be in communities such as Gretna, Blair and Fremont.
Some parishes and organizations will have gatherings in advance to make signs and are encouraged “to take ownership of their message.”
Other groups will have signs on hand for participants as they arrive for Life Chain.
In the Omaha metro area, parishes have been assigned locations by deanery. People can ask their parishes for specific locations or join in anywhere along the Life Chain.
