Warm Christmas dinner draws dozens of homeless Omahans

Dozens of men and women who are homeless enjoyed a Christmas Dinner last night at the Holy Family Community Center in downtown Omaha as part of a collaboration between the Archdiocese of Omaha and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. They also received emergency sleeping bags and other items to help them withstand bitter winter temperatures.

Archbishop George Lucas, deacons from across Omaha and students from St. Bernard’s shared conversations with attendees inside the community center, which offers year-round ministry supporting the homeless population in the neighborhood.
This is the second year Holy Family Community Center has organized a Christmas dinner.
“You cannot walk into this building and not see the need of the neighbors that are right in our presence every single day,” Society of St. Vincent de Paul Omaha executive director Jill Lynch-Sosa told KETV. “We get to know these folks. We know them very well, actually, many of them we’ve known for several years. And it’s just fun to be able to sit down and break bread with people.”
