Picnic With the Neighbors fills stomachs, souls

A group of deacons, their wives and other volunteers teamed up with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Omaha to serve about 200 people at a Picnic With the Neighbors on June 2 at the society’s Holy Family Center near downtown Omaha.

A rock ensemble played music as many of the homeless people in the area dined on grilled chicken, pulled pork, brisket and a variety of salads and desserts. The second annual picnic gave the volunteers a chance to get to know the people living in the area and to offer help and support.
