Archbishop McGovern to close the Jubilee Year with Mass at St. Cecilia Cathedral
December 4, 2025
Archbishop Michael G. McGovern will officially mark the closing of the 2025 Jubilee Year on Sunday, Dec. 28, at the 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha.
On Christmas Eve 2024, Pope Francis opened the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica, officially inaugurating the 2025 Jubilee of Hope. At that time, he called on Catholics around the world to be Pilgrims of Hope, the theme of the Jubilee Year. Opening ceremonies were then held in cathedrals around the world on Dec. 29, the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
In the Archdiocese of Omaha, the 2025 Jubilee Year opened with a rite in the chapel at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha, followed by a procession to nearby St. Cecilia Cathedral.
Throughout the Jubilee Year, Catholics in northeast Nebraska have had opportunities to make pilgrimages within the archdiocese. These pilgrimages offered individuals the opportunity to deepen their faith and receive a plenary indulgence.
The official conclusion of the Jubilee Year worldwide is Jan. 6, 2026, the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord.
