Big welcomes, back to the roots highlight school starts

Mercy High School in Omaha arranged a big welcome for students returning to school this year, with signs and cheers from student ambassadors and members of the cheer squad.

St. Mary School in Bellevue is reconnecting to its roots by emphasizing the charisms of study, prayer, community and service instilled by the founding Dominican Sisters in 1948.

And every junior and senior high school student at Pope John XXIII Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School in Elgin is getting a new book this year – a Chromebook to use at home and in school.

These are just a few of the start-of-school activities in the archdiocese’s 70 Catholic elementary and high schools.
