More than 300 gather for Vigil for Life

More than 300 people gathered with Archbishop George J. Lucas for the 17th annual Vigil for Life Mass and procession Sept. 3 at St. Mary Church in Bellevue.

They included Greg Weiss, a member of St. Stephen the Martyr Parish in Omaha who brought six of his seven children. Weiss said he and his family have been to several of the vigils in the past, and they come as witnesses to the importance of life.

In his homily, Archbishop Lucas said Mother Teresa – now St. Teresa of Kolkata – is “a great patroness of the pro-life movement.” She recognized the sacredness of life, the archbishop said, and had an ability to bring Christ’s love and light to all people – even those she disagreed with.

The vigil also included adoration of the Eucharist, a rosary procession to the nearby abortion clinic, Benediction and a reception.
