Cathedral Arts Project plans concert series

A concert earlier this month celebrating the 15th anniversary of the dual-temperament organ in St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha marked the beginning of a months-long series of concerts centered on the instrument.

A Nov. 18 concert at 3 p.m. will feature a former student of the Saint Cecilia Organ Academy, Ana Carlson Hawkins, currently a graduate student at the University of Kansas. A Jan. 20 concert will feature Michael Emmerich, associate director of music for the archdiocese, and a Feb. 17 concert will highlight Kevin Vogt, who as music director of the cathedral helped bring the organ to the archdiocese, founded the Saint Cecilia Schola Cantorum and currently is director of Liturgy and Music at Saint Michael the Archangel Parish and Organ Church Music Faculty at the University of Kansas.

Each of the musicians in the upcoming six-concert anniversary series titled “Welcome Home Organists” have played on the cathedral organ and were invited back to help celebrate the anniversary, said Marie Rubis Bauer, the archdiocese’s director of music and the cathedral organist.

The schedule and other information can be found at cathedralartsproject.org.
