Catholic Charities Marks 100 Years at Century of Hope Gala
September 3, 2026
Catholic Charities of Omaha celebrated a century of service Aug. 29 at its Century of Hope Gala. The milestone evening included two significant honors: Archbishop Michael G. McGovern presented an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope, and Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen read a state proclamation recognizing the organization’s 100-year commitment to strengthening families and serving the vulnerable.
Reflecting on the anniversary in a Facebook post, Archbishop McGovern wrote, “One hundred years of serving the vulnerable in our archdiocese is a legacy worth celebrating. As Catholic Charities begins its second century, may it continue to serve as the hands of Christ to those most in need.”
Executive Director Denise Bartels called the milestone humbling, noting the organization has “walked alongside individuals and families” through their most difficult and hopeful moments for a century.
