CSM students conduct balance study
April 18, 2019
Undergraduate and graduate students studying human movement, or kinesiology, at the College of Saint Mary in Omaha are working with 30 Sisters of Mercy to determine whether a new piece of exercise equipment can help women 60 and older improve their balance.
Supervised by Dr. Andrew Shim, the school’s director of kinesiology and exercise science, the study involves the SCIFIT company’s Latitude Stability Trainer, which uses circular motion to target muscles that can help with stability and side-to-side movements.
Sisters involved in the study will use the equipment for 10 minutes at a time, three days a week for five weeks.
