Deacon Kreun’s ministry served youth, young adults

Deacon Wesley Kreun, whose eight years of service included youth and young adult ministry at St. Stephen the Martyr Parish, died Jan. 12. He was 62.

Ordained in 2010, he also taught baptism classes and served as the leader of a local Boy Scout troop.

“Deacon Wes,” as he was known by his fellow clergy and parishioners at St. Stephen, “was a wonderful listener and gave whatever time was needed to those he served. He was always ready to do his part in supporting those in need.” said fellow deacon Denny Dethlefs.

“Deacon Wes was a deacon of the people and for the people he served,” he said. “He was a wonderful role-model for all of us.  He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on.”

Amidst the chaos of our busy world, Deacon Kreun was someone who always made time for other people, said Father David Belt, pastor of St. Stephen. “He had this wonderful way of making people feel comfortable. When you were with him, you just felt like his focus, his love was on you and that’s a pretty rare gift.”

Deacon Kreun was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Renee; children and spouses, Bryan and Stacy Kreun, Kyle and Julie Kreun, Matthew and Lindsey Kreun, and Stephanie and Chris Wilson; 10 grandchildren; siblings Vern and Vi.
