Golf Fest sets record

Mercy High School in Omaha set another fundraising record during its 27th annual Driving for Excellence Golf Fest Sept. 10.

The event raised more than $73,000 for the all-girls school’s negotiated tuition program, topping last year’s record $65,000.

More than 180 golfers participated in a shotgun start at Omaha’s Players Club at Deer Creek, a pre-tournament cookout and a buffet dinner afterward.

Prizes were given for the top men’s, women’s and mixed teams, as well as putting, drives, and longest shot from the fairway. Raffle prizes included golf outings and golf clubs, tickets to plays and sporting events, a drone, an iPad Aire, a Fit Bit, and other electronics.

The school’s tuition program provides about $1.8 million a year to about 82 percent of students’ families based on needs and incomes.
