Ground broken for nursing home

A May 9 groundbreaking marked the construction start for a 54-bed nursing home in West Point sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, which also sponsors the nearby St. Francis Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph Retirement Center, St. Francis Home Health and satellite clinics.

The nursing home is the last major component of plans by the religious order based in Manitowoc, Wis., to meet medical needs in the West Point area, where they have served since 1905, said Andy Fuston, administrator of the retirement center and the planned facility.

The $13.5 million project, to be called St. Joseph Hillside Villa, will be completed by late 2018, Fuston said.
